Archived SermonsCurrent Sermon Schedule | Archived Sermon Schedules Dear Friend,These sermons are simple expressions from the Bible, God’s Word. There are solid reasons why they are simple: 1. The primary purpose of a Sermon is to make the meaning of God’s Word grow legs and walk down the aisle in today’s world while singing eternity’s melody, Jesus and the resurrection. Scholarly issues are addressed only as they serve that higher purpose. 2. Sermons are oral speech; they are written for the ear and for the heart as well as the mind. “Does not the ear test words as the tongue tastes food?” Job 12:11 3. On any given Sunday, my congregation is comprised of a huge range of personal backgrounds, needs, problems and hopes. We have grade-school kids to individuals in a doctoral program to professional personnel to working stiffs like this pastor. Men and women, single, divorced, never married… A sermon must somehow be meaningful to each and all of these persons simultaneously. It’s about throwing slow strikes, not fastballs, curves or sliders. Frankly, that takes God the Holy Spirit; surely, it is well beyond the skills and abilities of even the most brilliant mind.
4. In telling somebody about Jesus and what He’s done for us, simple is more.
